The purpose of this research study is to design a guide for occupational therapists to use when helping young people as well as their families during the transition from the pediatric to the adult health care system.

 

Inclusion criteria for health care professionals:

  • Currently licensed occupational therapy practitioner, medical health care provider (such as MD, DO, PA, NP), or nurse
  • Practicing within the United States
  • At least one year of experience working in the respective professional fields
  • Experience working with transition-aged individuals, ages 12-22, with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Proficient with reading, writing, and communicating in the English language

Inclusion criteria for youth and families:

  • Individual with an intellectual and/or a developmental disability
  • Currently within the age range of 18-22
  • Currently or have previously gone through the health care transition process
  • A caregiver that is involved with the respective youth’s health care transition process
  • Communicates in the English language
  • Lives or lived within the United States during the health care transition
